CHILDREN'S
EYE CARE

Good vision is vital for children, as so much of their learning and development happens through their eyes. While children are offered a pre-school vision screening, this is not a full eye examination and does not check overall eye health. Many children don’t realise their sight isn’t clear—because they’ve never known any different—so poor vision can often go unnoticed.

We recommend that children have their first eye examination around age 3. There’s no need for them to be able to read—our tests are designed for all ages. After this, children should have regular eye examinations at least every 2 years. If you ever have concerns about your child’s eyes at any age, please don’t hesitate to bring them to see us.

In addition to routine testing, we also provide myopia control treatments. These are specially designed glasses or contact lenses that can help to slow down the progression of short-sightedness (myopia). This is important because high levels of myopia can increase the risk of eye health problems later in life.

Eye examinations for under 16s and for under 19s in full-time education are fully funded by the NHS. If spectacles are needed, your child will also receive an NHS optical voucher, which provides free or reduced-cost glasses.
